Strategies for Global Manufacturing
– A European View of IMS
- 15~16 November, 2007
- Swiss Federal University of Technology (ETH), Zürich, Switzerland
In view of the growing interest in manufacturing research in a global economy and the social and environmental impact that it may have, the European and Swiss IMS Secretariat have organized this event.
There will be a plenary session and parallel sessions on more specific topics. One session on “Sustainable Manufacturing” will deal with the growing concern about the effects on the environment of our modern way of life that involves the use and manufacture of technological products such as cars, airplanes, production equipment, computers, household equipment, food, various chemicals, etc.
For the manufacturing industry, there are many options and decisions to take during the whole lifecycle of a product/manufacturing system (from its design, through its use and operation to its retirement) that affect the whole framework of technical, economical, ecological and social aspects of the development of a product and its manufacturing, which may be defined as “sustainable manufacturing”. This session concerns methods and industrial needs for implementing the paradigm of sustainable manufacturing at European and global level. The other sessions deal with Key Technologies, Interoperability, ICT, and Education.
The event is sponsored by the EU and Swiss IMS Secretariats with attendance limited to 100 attendees. More information may be found at http://cordis.europa.eu/ims/src/event-2007.htm.
