Fred–Holger Günther, Dipl.-Ing
Mr. Günther is currently serving a 30-month term as Chairman of the IMS International Steering Committee. Formerly, he was President of the Division Automation Technology (AT) and Senior Vice President of Robert Bosch GmbH. His division had about 5000 employees and sales of 2 bio. DM. The product range contained electronic controls, robots, hydraulics (mobile and industrial), pneumatics and assembly technology. A major part of the division produced test and assembly equipment for Bosch worldwide captive use.
Following graduation from the Technical University Hannover and receiving a Dipl.-Ing.“ in Mechanical Engineering with specialisation in Production-Engineering in 1968, he joined the Deutsche Förderungsgesellschaft für Entwicklungsländer in the position of Senior Scientific Assistant at the Indian Institute of Technology in Madras, India. He became a Senior Scientific Assistant there with the task of establishing the laboratory of metal forming, giving lectures in English language and guiding masters students with their thesis. In 1971, he Joined Robert Bosch GmbH, Stuttgart, as a Trainee in production engineering ( MTM,REFA etc.). By 1972 he was departmental head responsible for a team of 60 engineers and technicians executing the production planning and investment control for all overseas factories.
In 1974 he became the General Works Manager of the Motor Industries Co. (MICO – a Bosch Company, Bangalore/India). The factory had app. 7000 employees and produced Diesel injection equipment and spark plugs, and in 1979 returned to Homburg, Germany to assume the Head of Production Engineering of the Bosch factory there. The main tasks included operational responsibility for the existing factory for Diesel injection equipment and planning and realisation of a new factory. As a result of this success, he assumed the responsibility as Technical Works Manager of the Bosch factories at Nürnberg and Ansbach that produced car horns, magnetos, relays, ECU for ABS, truck brakes, and ultimately became responsible for the realisation of a new factory in Ansbach.
Building on this success, in 1987 Bosch asked Mr. Günther to move to Brasil and become a Member of the Board of Directors of Robert Bosch do Brasil, Campinas,SP, Brasil. He was responsible for the product development, production and sales of Diesel injection equipment and mobile hydraulics. He was also responsible for capital investments and civil construction for Bosch Brasil with 14.000 employees in 5 locations.
In 2002, Mr. Günther took early retirement after helping to guide the merger with Rexroth AG to create Bosch Rexroth AG. Since that time he has been a consultant in the industry.

Prof. Claudio R. Boër, Dr.Ing. M.A.S., Ph.D.
Prof. Boer served as Chairman of IMS during a 30-month term from 2008 to 2010. During his term the Manufacturing Technology Platform program was launched that transformed how projects are developed. He is credited for bringing Mexico into the organization and also extended dialogue to Brazil and China. Currently he is representing IMS as special envoy to the Republic of China for discussions of membership, and he is also a consultant to IMS for project development and strategy.
Prof. Claudio R. Boër is Director of ICIMSI, an applied R&D Institute dedicated to help SME to innovate their products and process. The Institute belongs to SUPSI, the University of Applied Science of Southern Switzerland
He obtained a first degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Politecnico of Torino, then a Master of Applied Science of Mechanical Engineering from University of Waterloo, Canada and a Ph.D. of Mechanical Engineering from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada.
He 16 years of industrial experience in the field of material processing simulation, manufacturing system planning and design, computer aided design and manufacturing.
His accademic experience was developed as a Lecturer at Federal Politechnical School of Lausanne, Switzerland, and as Associate Professor at Politecnico of Milan, Italy
He gained R&D management experience as Research Director at ITIA-CNR in Milano and then as Project Leader of European Integrated Project EUROShoE developing fundamental results in several fields and mainly Mass Customization of Footwear and Sustainable Development.
Presently is a Fellow Member of C.I.R.P, member of Steering Committee of ManuFuture-CH, National Technology Platform for Future Manufacturing, President of SwissIPA, Swiss Innovation Promotion Association, Switzerland.
He has published three books and over 230 papers in the field of manufacturing, applied computer science to manufacturing and production management, plastic deformation simulation, applied robotic, Virtual Manufacturing, Environment, Extended Enterprise, Mass Customization (in particular footwear), etc.
